I never imagined myself skiing down a Himalayan slope, but that’s exactly where I found myself after a last-minute trip to Auli, one of India’s few ski destinations.
The plan? There was none. I just wanted to see snow, and with Bino helping me figure out the rest—transport, stay, and ski lessons—everything came together effortlessly at the last minute.
Day 1: The Journey into Snow
Auli isn’t the easiest place to reach. I took an overnight train to Haridwar, a bus to Joshimath, and then a final cable car ride up to Auli. The moment I stepped off, everything was white. Snow-covered trees, cottages with icicles hanging from the roofs, and a view of Nanda Devi in the distance.
Day 2: Falling, Laughing & Finally Skiing
I’d never skied before, so I booked a beginner’s ski class (yes, last-minute, thanks to Bino). The first hour? Pure disaster. I fell a dozen times, got snow in my jacket, and even slid backward at one point. But by afternoon, I managed a few smooth glides, and suddenly, it all clicked.
The day ended by a bonfire, drinking hot chai with other travelers, all of us exhausted but thrilled.
Day 3: Snow Hikes & Mountain Views
Skiing was fun, but Auli has more to offer. I went on a short trek to Gurson Bugyal, a meadow covered in untouched snow with an unbelievable panoramic view of the Himalayas. No ski lifts, no resorts—just pure, silent beauty.
This was easily one of the most unique travel experiences I’ve had. From falling face-first in the snow to finally skiing down a slope, it was all worth it. And to think, I booked this trip just days before.
For anyone who wants to plan a winter escape without the chaos of last-minute planning, just message Bino on WhatsApp at +91 9800081110, and let it handle the details while you chase the snow.
